Phantom, Clowns, Grim Reaper- Watching Hour — Horror Powerful Genre?
“Horror requires its audience to ponder human nature, morality, and often, spirituality. Not many other genres do that.”― Alistair Cross
People usually watch Horror genre because they enjoy the thrill, tingle and palpable sensation of being terrified. Moreover, there’s more to watch a horror story than just the scary parts. I’m quite a fan of horror genre since I pop out of my mother’s womb (I know it’s a little cheeky to say it but it is what it is). There are so many breath-taking movies and web series out there which might be not explored yet by the horror enthusiast. I am just going to highlight few movies’/web series’ names and how they were inter-woven to juveniles- adolescents? ; How those visuals have engraved their stamp in the audiences’ mind?
Of course, when I will talk about horror genre- it’s definitely going to involve gaming as well- totally nostalgic when I mention the name “Plant vs Zombies”- such a convenient and irresistible game for kids back then. It brings so many childhood memories to think about — There are other games as well that reminds me of my early days in school i.e.: Alone in the Dark, Dead Rising, Resident Evil Survivor, Resident Evil — Code: Veronica, Man Hunt, Penumbra: Overture and so forth.
I have recently watched a movie on Netflix “Killer Book Club”. The complex plot of the film revolves around a book club seeking revenge on a professor, which spirals into murder and online storytelling, leading to a shocking revelation about the killers’ true identities. The ending of the movie leaves audiences wondering if the events are real or just a manifestation of the protagonist’s trauma, sparking speculation about a potential sequel.
Behind Her Eyes: A Suspenseful Psychological Thriller is a mystery series about a single mom who connects romantically with her married boss. It explores the fallout of that connection, which goes in utterly unexpected directions. Violence is not gory or bloody, but characters are in mortal danger frequently, often from supernatural forces. There are sudden deaths and deadly plots, and viewers will see scary visuals, including images from dreams and dead bodies. Sexual content is also mature, with lengthy sex scenes and some nudity. Characters are complicated and not to be trusted; some have supernatural powers that make them threatening and to be feared. “Behind Her Eyes” has a few secrets up its own sleeves, and if you think you know where the story’s going after a couple of episodes, ready yourself for some truly surprising twists. Because what this show is really wrestling with is the malleability of memory and emotions, while teasing viewers with themes of infidelity, identity, and betrayal.
This show has also introduced me with the concept of Astral projection- Astral projection is a term used in esotericism to describe an intentional out-of-body experience that assumes the existence of a subtle body, known as the astral body or body of light, through which consciousness can function separately from the physical body and travel throughout the astral plane.
Movies like “IT”- this terrifying clown movie builds its fright from fear itself. In that respect, it’s more aligned with The Goonies, Stand by Me and Stranger Things than it is with slasher movies or jump scares. Pennywise is an iconic character, based not on a simple fear of death — he’s more than just a Freddy or a Jason — but on something more primal and unexplainable, a thing of nightmares. This epic “It” promises with more terror to come.
“Evil Dead” has accomplished something miraculous; a black-humored, blood-soaked saga in which young people goes down to the woods one day, and finds them in for a big surprise. A decade later at a time when dead franchises came back to life with more gusto than arguably ever before, Evil Dead Rise is an inevitable resurrection, following on from recent revivals of Scream, Hell raiser and Halloween and before we see more of The Exorcist, The Thing and Friday the 13th…
“The Pale Blue Eye” is a pulpy murder mystery bristling with florid dialogue and supernatural flourishes. Imagining a crime-solving partnership between a grouchy police detective and a fictional Edgar Allan Poe, this historical thriller cooks up overheated gothic melodrama in a wintry New York setting. The Pale Of Blue Eye is one of the most clever and intriguing Mystery thriller film I have ever watch; an unpredictable twist after twist that are so smart and quite shocking- an incredible build up from the beginning to the end fills with the obvious great performance by Christian Bale.
There’s nothing scarier than silence. A lot of horror movies lean on hits and score to try and create tension, which actually does the opposite. The best scares come from a desire to see the character overcome what they’re dealing with in the scene. If you care about the character you’ll care about the scare. Horror fiction genre is absolutely worth- watching — therefore, my readers may take out a little time and indulge themselves for exciting and exhilarating movies out there —
I have written this article because one of my close acquaintances who wanted me to confer about horror stuff including ghosts, phantoms, grim reapers and so forth. He’s also one of my regular Readers. This is especially dedicated to him as he is a quite an ebullient of Horror movies.
Feel feasible to DM/email your thoughts — I will be delighted; each and every readers’ of mine -perception matters to me. I am also attaching a link of a Research paper related to Horror Genre (in case if anyone would like to pitch in more for the elucidation)
